UNIVERSITY Teaching Hospital (UTH) Pool Club star player, Patrick ‘Berger” Banda at the weekend emerged winner of the 2014 Lusaka Singles pool tournament, which was held at Mumana pleasure Resort.
For his excellent run to the title, Banda, a member of the Zambian team which emerged as African champion last year, walked away with K2, 000 prize money, a trophy and a cue stick.
Banda’s victim in the final Aven Sichalwe from Konala pool club settled for second position with prize money of K1, 000 and a cue stick.
Third place prize of K500 and a cue stick went to Sharks’ Chimuka Chiyonkona with the fourth position prize of K300 and a cue stick going to Kelvin Mulenga of Konala.
Zambia Pool Union (ZPU) secretary Victor Musonda said other affiliate districts should also play this regional pool event and that the union was expecting to see more action from Kabwe, Ndola, Chipata and Livingstone.
“We are happy with this start and the season kicks off with the Charity Shield on the 19th April 2014.
“League Games follow the following week on 26th April 2014,” Musonda said.
He said the top eight will take part in the Charity Shield and named the teams as UTH, who are the current champions, Boree, Konala and Castle Embassy.
The rest are Munsalamu, Wingos, Obamaz and Sharks who will all play at Mumana Pleasure Resort starting 09.00hrs.
