THE number of road traffic accidents at Kabangwe Police check point on the outskirts of Lusaka on the Great North Road has soared lately which can be attributed to wrong positioning of the barricade.

I witnessed one accident at the weekend, involving a heavy truck whose horse collapsed after break failure and hit into another within metres of the roadblock.

Hardly a month passes without similar incidences mainly due to congestion. Descending vehicles mostly trucks have often time ploughed through nearby shops in an attempt to avoid knocking down particularly the police officers.

May I appeal to the authorities, especially the Road Transport and Safety Agency to relocate the check point to a more suitable flat-stretch road site before further loss of life and property?
