By FLAVIOR CHISHALA –
LUSAKA Province Minister Phillip Kosamu has said performance of some District Commissioners left much to be desired.
Mr Kosamu has since warned all the District Commissioners in the province pull up their socks in the manner they are executing their duties.
Mr Kosamu said there was so much work under the officers of the commissioners but which has been neglected and that Government will not tolerate such laziness.
The minister was speaking at Government Complex in Lusaka during the submission of Provincial Developmental Coordinating Committee (PDCC) quarterly reports.
He noted that some District Commissioners were involving themselves more into partisan politics than executing their duties as civil servants which he said was worrisome.
“The constitution does not allow any civil servants to engage in partisan politics, your duty is to carry out Government programmes formulate and implement policies and deliver quality services to the people of Zambia because that is what they expect from you but if you choose to politicise your work, we will not hesitate to sort you out,” Mr Kosamu said.
The minister said his office would put in place monitoring and evaluation mechanism to observe which District Commissioners were not applying themselves in their duties fully.
“We have our ears on the ground and we are observing what you are doing I must   warn   you that   anyone who will be found wanting will be disciplined and do not blame us,” he added.
Mr Kosamu has since implored all the Lusaka province District Commissioners to improve their attitudes towards work so that they can supervise their juniors and leave a legacy behind.
Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary Wamunyima Muwana advised the District Commissioners to be conscious in the way they make decisions.
He urged the District Commissioners to stop people allocating land too close to railway lines and ZESCO powerlines as doing so would endanger people’s lives.
“You are the people on the ground and drivers of development, your decisions in the execution of your duties matter a lot in the national
development, do the correct thing while u are in these positions so that you become role models to your juniors,” Mr Muwana said.
