SOYABy JUDITH NAMUTOWE in KASAMA-
A KASAMA-based company Regitech Soya Processing Industries Limited has appealed to Government to consider waiving import duty on equipment and other operating machinery.
One of the directors Emeldah Bwalya said in Kasama that the Government must also liaise with the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA) to ensure that incentives available under the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) window were made available to such companies if
they were to compete effectively.
Regitech Soya Processing Industries Limited is one of the companies that benefited from the Citizen Economic Empowerment Commission (CEEC) soya beans value chain cluster in Kasama.
Ms Bwalya said the company received K540,640 from the commission to set up the cooking oil processing plant in Kasama.
The company had already started construction of the plant and the equipment had since been procured.
Ms Bwalya also said Government should formulate a deliberate policy considerations aimed at protecting the emerging industries that would start competing with big processors with efficient equipment and production lines.
