THE Rotary Club of Ndola-Mukuba in conjunction with a consortium of Rotary clubs in the United States of America (USA), has donated training equipment worth K330,916.95 to Makoli Resource Centre in Ndola.
Making the donation yesterday, outgoing club president Victor Chimuka said the club was happy to make the donation to the centre run by Seeds of Hope, a non-profit organisation providing training and skills to youths in Ndola.
“Our partnership with Seeds of Hope has been growing from strength to strength. That is perhaps the reason why they have been a beneficiary of such an assortment of goods,” he said.
Mr Chimuka, who thanked partners abroad and the Rotary Foundation for the support, said the donation to Makoli Resource Centre was one of the biggest grants so far donated to one entity.
Seeds of Hope founder and international director Kirk Schauer thanked the Rotary Club of Mukuba for the donation, saying it would go a long way to help train youths with various skills.
“Our goal is to break the cycle of poverty. The only way we can do that is to help youths with skills for self sustenance,” he said.
The items donated were sourced from the US, by the Ndola-Mukuba Rotary, working with Rotary clubs of Cambria, Cambria-Sun, Nipomo, San Luis de tolosa and Rotary District 5240, using the Rotary Foundation system of matching grants.
The items included carpentry tools, workshop electric powered tools, laboratory furnishings, laptop computers, solar panels, treadle Sewing Machines, and classroom furnishings.
Kirk Schauer is the founder and international director of Seeds of Hope International Partnerships, a nonprofit organisation that works to reverse the downward spiral of poverty by empowering community members with hope and holistic solutions.
