THE Scrabble Association of Zambia (SAZ) has unveiled a K120,000 budget towards hosting the East, Central and Southern Africa (ECASA) championship scheduled for April at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC).

SAZ president Sydney Kalema said the association was appealing to sponsors to come on board and help successfully stage the competition that would be held from April 17 to 21.

Kalema said preparations to host the event have already started and was confident of Zambia putting up a good tournament.

“We have already started preparations for this tournament and it is our hope that sponsors will come on board and help us stage this event. It is through hosting such tournaments that our sport gets to grow,” he said.

Kalema named the participating countries as Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and hosts Zambia.

He said there was need for Zambia to prepare adequately as hosts and put up a good performance to win the championships.

And in a bid to keep the players in shape, Kalema said the association will be hosting rating tournament every week to thoroughly prepare for the championship.
