Firts Lady among 2,500 RTSA relay participants

FIRST lady, Christine Kaseba will today be among the 2,500 participants expected to take part in the 2014 Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) Inter-company Relay (ICR) set for the Lusaka Showgrounds.
The ICR will be held under the them ‘Act Now to Stop Road Accidents’ and has a sub-theme ‘Act Now To Stop Child Abuse and Early Marriages’.
Dr Kaseba, who will grace the event, will take part in the five kilometres health walk together with Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao and his wife.
Among the Chief Executive Officers expected to take part in the prestigious Airtel Zambia CEO race include Charity Lumpa of Airtel Zambia, Muchindu Kasongola of Madison General Insurance, Zamtel’s Mupanga Mwanakatwe, Nawa Samatebele of ZICTA, Prosper Batchi of Bata Zambia and Robinson Misitala of National Airports Corporation Limited.
This year’s race will also see the use of an electronic timing system (ETS) and participants will be given accurate times once completion their races.
ICR organising committee chairperson Elias Mpondela, who is also Zambia Amateur Athletics Association (ZAAA) president, said all was set for the event.
“Everything is in place for this year’s Inter-Company Relay which will be graced by the first lady and I would like to thank the corporate world for coming on board to ensure the successful hosting of the event,” he said.
He said ICR believes promoting health is wealthy and expressed hope that more women will be screened for cervical cancer.
“Last year we managed to detect signs of cancer in 300 women and this time around we are hoping more women will take the courage to get screened. Cancer has now become a health challenge to the nation and we are hopeful that through this event, will save a life of a woman,” he said.
The races include the 10.5km individual power race sponsored by Bata Zambia, kids athletics with about 130 organisations have registered and see 80 teams taking part in the 10.4 relay race,
This year’s ICR is been commemorated together with the World Blood Donor Day which falls today.
