Police capBy SAM PHIRI and
REBECCA MUSHOTA-
a man in Kaputa has stabbed his stepson to death after a quarrel.
Headson Musachi of Kantalamba Village in Kaputa returning from a drinking spree on Monday evening quarreled with his stepson, Sydney Katele before he stabbed him with a knife in the chest.
Luapula Province police chief Malcolm Mulenga said yesterday that the incident happened on Monday around 18:00 hours.
Mr Mulenga said according to a witness, Lilies Chipili, who reported the matter to police, Musachi picked a quarrel with his stepson and stabbed him in the chest.
He said Musachi was not immediately arrested because he ran away after the incident.
He was however, arrested yesterday and is currently in police custody.
Mr Mulenga said Mr Katele’s body is in the mortuary awaiting postmortem while Musachi has been charged with murder.
Meanwhile, police will today formally arrest the four men who were found in possession of male private parts after charging them with the gruesome murder of the man, whose body with missing parts, was dumped in a quarry in Lusaka’s Kamwala South area.
The body has been identified by relatives as that of Haggai Temba of Misisi Township.
Police spokesperson Charity Chanda said police were waiting for results from the postmortem that will be done today at University Teaching Hospital (UTH).
She said formal arrest of the suspects will be done after postmortem results are made available and that burial of the deceased is also expected to take place today.
“We still are investigating the reasons behind the killing. For now, we cannot ascertain whether it was a ritual l killing or just any other kind of murder though to us murder is murder,” she said.
Ms Chanda, however, said the body has been identified by the relatives who are expected to advise further on the burial arrangements.
“In most cases, burials of such victims take place immediately after the postmortem that is why I am sure it will take place tomorrow (today),” she said.
On Monday morning around 06:00 hours, the body of Mr Temba who was brutally killed with private parts, throat, tongue and heart removed was discovered in a quarry in Lusaka’s Kamwala South by passers-by near the railway line.
Mr Temba who is believed to have been murdered between June 15 and 16 this year had bruised wrists and a deep cut on the right cheek.
The four unnamed suspects believed to be behind the brutal killing are expected to appear in court soon.
