Nkana  2  Zanaco  0
DEFENDING champions Nkana remained the only unbeaten team in the league this season after overpowering stuttering leaders, Zanaco in a rescheduled MTN-FAZ Premier Division League Week Five match in Kitwe yesterday.
The win sent Nkana up from eighth to seventh on the table with four games in hand on 17 points from nine matches played while Zanaco stayed put in first place after suffering their second successive defeat.
Both sides sized each other up for the opening 35 minutes before Nkana scored both their goals a few moments to the halftime whistle.
Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba put Nkana ahead in the 38th minute off a poor Dominic Yobe clearance of a Evans Kangwa’s initial shot that found the 2013 top scorer who made no mistake.
Kangwa added the second goal in the 40th minute after riding Yobe’s challenge on the edge of the box to effectively seal the victory.
Zanaco midfielder Rodrick Kabwe tested Rabson Muchelenganga three minutes later but the Nkana goalkeeper reacted quickly to parry the Chipolopolo winger’s free-kick.
Nkana won a penalty in the 56th minute but spot-kick specialist Derrick Mwansa was not so lucky this time when Allan Chibwe saved.
Four minutes later, Kabwe’s shot came off the post and Muchelenganga’s reflexes were on hand to deny Zanaco from causing any damage.
Nkana were unfortunate not to add two more goals when referee Milton Mweemba disallowed Kampamba and Kangwa’s goals in the 63rd and 79th minutes for offside.
