FAZ Division One North side, Ndola United has fired head coach Emmanuel ‘Kashiki’ Mwelwa three months into the job following a spate of poor results.
The club executive committee decided to terminate the contract of Mwelwa half way into the season after Ndola United only managed to pick up four victories, five draws and six defeats to amass 17 points and 13th on the log.
Mwelwa, who was assistant coach to Maybin Chama, took over the job after the later was sacked at the start of the 2014 soccer season.
In a dismissal letter dated June 23, 2014 addressed to Mwelwa and obtained by the TIMES in Ndola yesterday, club secretary Mbweteka Mulonda stated that the sacked coach failed to uplift the team’s performance to its highest possible level.
“I find it unacceptable that despite the club providing you with all the support in terms of finances, material and morally, you have inadequately applied yourself on the job and you have continued to perform so poorly that the team is wallowing in the relegation zone much to the dismay of our sponsors.
The two games ultimatum given to you to improve have not been positive as the team failed to win any game. I write to inform you that your employment with Ndola United Football Club as head coach has been terminated with immediate effect,” the letter read.
Mulonda said the decision to terminate Mwelwa’s contract was arrived at during the executive committee meeting held at the club house at Musa Kasonka Stadium on Friday last week.
Club chairperson Latife Zhino, in an interview, said that the committee had embarked on a head hunt to find a possible replacement for Mwelwa.
“We are having a meeting today (yesterday) to discuss the way forward on the vacant job and we will be head hunting for a new coach to finish the season,” he said.
