KANSANSHI Mine in Solwezi has reached a safety milestone, achieving six million fatality-free shifts, general manager Sean Whittome has said.
Mr Whittiome said fatality-free shifts were periods when there were no fatal accidents recorded on the mine.
He said the achievement placed Kansanshi Mine, a joint venture between First Quantum Minerals with 80 per cent shareholding and Government with 20 per cent stake, in the elite global band of mining safety.
He attributed the success to the company’s unconditional commitment to its safety motto of “No job is so important that it cannot be done safely”.
“This is not only a remarkable achievement for a site as big as Kansanshi but is also a demonstration of the unconditional commitment of every employee in adhering to best workplace safety standards,” he
said.
He said safety remained a top priority and that Kansanshi Mine would continue to intensify efforts to encourage safe working practices through the various interventions already in place.
