THE Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) in Nyimba District has destroyed more than two tonnes of cannabis.
This was after the court in Nyimba District ordered for the destruction of the drugs.
DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo said the disposal was done in the presence of court officials.
Ms Katongo said this came after the conviction of four suspects who included Alaida Lungu, 73, charged with unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 1.58 tonnes.
She said others convicted were Dickson Lungu for unlawful cultivation of 788 kilogrammes of fresh cannabis plants, Cosmas Daka, for cultivating 10.8 kilogrammes and Avutika Daka for cultivating 7.8 kilogrammes of fresh cannabis plants.
Ms Katongo said Lungu was sentenced to five years simple imprisonment.
She said that the total weight of cannabis destroyed was 2.4 tonnes.
