ATHLETICS youth coach Sydney Mushipi has declared the four athletes ready for next week’s International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) World Junior Championships slated for the United States of  America (USA).
Mushipi said in an interview that the four juniors have shaped up well ahead of departure on Saturday for the World Championships that starts on July 22 to 27.
Zambia will be represented by Brian Kasinda and Sydney Siame, both 200m runners, Joseph Sinkala in long jump and USA based 400m runner Saeddye Meru.
Mushipi expressed confidence that the athletes will win Zambia medals going by the training they have undergone including experience gained from taking part in other competitions.
He said Zambian athletes were ready to compete with countries like the USA and Jamaica who have dominated athletics at international competitions.
“I have confidence in my team that they will grab a medal at the event. They boys have set world standard times that make me believe that Zambia will reap some medals,” he said.
He said the three locally based athletes have been training hard since their return from the Africa Youth Games held in Botswana in May.
Meanwhile, Kasinda, who has a personal best of 21:02 seconds in 200m, said he was confident of coming back with a medal and was also target on setting a new 200m record.
Siame said his was not intimidated facing athletes from the USA or Jamaica and will prove to the world that Zambia has talent.
