BARCELONA coaches have promised to help transfer some of their skills and expertise into Zambian football, making the local trainers understand the Spanish giants’ famous all-conquering, ‘tika taka’ style.

Speaking during a Press briefing at Intercontinental Hotel in Lusaka on Tuesday evening, Barcelona Football School coordinator, Daniel Bigas Alsina said they were happy to be accorded an opportunity to work with Zambians and share their skills and expertise.

He said the school worked with some of Europe’s best players and that holding coaching clinics would accord local players access to the ‘tika taka’ football style which Barcelona was famously known for.

Alsina is in Zambia with compatrtiot, Isaac Oriol Guerrero for a two-day coaching clinic for 30 local coaches from top clubs and national teams.

He also said they had a lot of things to share and asked for co-operation from the Zambian coaches.

Guerrero, a former Barcelona’s under 20 captain, said African football was developing steadily and the two-day coaching clinic would help in growing the Zambian game.

Guerrero said he had been following Zambian football since 1993 when a plane crash off the coast of Gabon claimed the entire national team and in 2012 when the Chipolopolo won a historic Africa Cup of Nations title.

The clinics are a three country run touching Zimbabwe, Zambia and finally Tanzania under Barcelona FC’s sponsorship with Castle Lager.

The two-day clinic is under Barcelona’s sponsorship with Castle Lager.

Football of Zambia (FAZ) vice president Boniface Mwamelo said the association always aimed at working with the best to develop local football.

Mwamelo said he was optimistic that the two-day clinic would be able to impart the necessary knowledge into the 30 coaches who have been selected to attend the training.

Mwamelo appealed to the 30 course participants to take the coaching clinic serious and also share the knowledge acquired with other trainers.
