THE Government has reiterated its commitment to engaging the Church in addressing important national issues.

Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba said the Government would continue to engage the Church in coming up with a people-driven Constitution.

Mr Kabimba also stressed that the Government would not allow individuals championing homosexuality to hijack the Constitution-making process.

The minister said this in a speech read for him by Mines Deputy Minister Richard Musukwa during a church service at United Church of Zambia’s St Peter’s Congregation in Lusaka’s Kalingalinga Township yesterday.

He explained that the PF would continue to engage the Church as it shared the same values on matters such as homosexuality.

Mr Kabimba, who is PF secretary general, said the Government was fully aware of the critical role the Church played in addressing various economic and social issues affecting communities.

The minister said the PF Government remained determined to fostering a mutual relationship with the Church in a bid to uplift the living standards of the Zambians.

Later, the minister donated K10,000 towards the completion of the church reverend’s house.

Speaking earlier, fundraising convener Elena Kwanza said the fundraising venture was instituted with the aim of completing the reverend’s house.

Ms Kwanza said the proceeds of the fundraising venture would go a long way in making the reverend’s house more habitable. – ZANIS
