3 Ndola cops deny stealing K1.6m cables

THREE Ndola-based Police officers and a driver at Dangote Industries Zambia Limited in Masaiti have pleaded not guilty to theft of electric cables worth K1.6 million in a Ndola magistrate’s court.
Kelvin Sitwala, 32, of 24 Kansenshi Police Camp, John Phiri, 29, of 32 Masala Police Camp and Mulenga Chikosa, 26, of 53 Kansenshi Police Camp, all Police officers together with Pethias Sinyangwe, 30, a driver at Dangote Industries Zambia Limited of residential address 12.
Tigwilizane in Kalulushi appeared before Ndola magistrate Chitundu Chongo yesterday for theft of electric cables worth K1.2 million.
Particulars of the offence were that the four accused, while acting together on July 19, this year, stole two drums of electric cables worth K1.6 million, property of Dangote Industries Zambia Limited.
All of the accused persons are on bail.
Earlier, the State prosecutor, Eliko Banda applied to the court to amend the charge sheet from theft by public servant to theft.
Ms Chongo granted the application.
The matter has been adjourned to August 26, this year for commencement of trial.
