THE Kitwe City Council (KCC) has given an ultimatum of up to August 18, this year, for all people who were allocated plots recently, to start developing their properties.
Kitwe Mayor Kelvin Sinyangwe said developers should start constructing their properties or risked losing the land.
Mr Sinyangwe said yesterday that the council was concerned that some people where in the habit of rushing to obtain plots but end up failing to develop them.
He said the interest of the council was to have people empowered with land and that all those obtaining plots should have capacity to quickly develop them.
Mr Sinyangwe who was speaking when he inspected stands mounted by KCC at the Civic Centre as part of the activities for the Local Government Week aimed at showcasing potential developers and investors the opportunities available at the local level said demand for land was high.
He said as such, there was need for all those that were rushing to obtain plots to ensure that they wasted no time in developing their land.
Mr Sinyangwe hailed the initiative of launching the Local Government Week, which he said would greatly help in harmonising the information gap between members of the public and the local authorities.
