Two children burn to death in Nchelenge

TWO children aged five and three years have been burnt to death after their house was set ablaze by unknown people in Nchelenge.
Luapula Province Police Commissioner Malcolm Mulenga said yesterday that the two children, Benson Mutuna, five, and Mary Muyembe, three, of Chilongoshi Village in Chief Kambwali’s area in Nchelenge were burnt to ashes on Thursday around 20:30 hours in their house after it was set on fire in unexplained circumstances.
Mr Mulenga said the incident happened when the mother of the children left them in the house to go and help her husband ferry bags of cassava from the field where he had gone.
“The mother was called by the husband to go and assist him carry bags of cassava that he had from the fields where he had been.
“The house was set on fire by unknown people and the children got burnt to ashes,” he said.
Mr Mulenga said property worth K6,000 was also destroyed in the inferno.
The father and mother to the children found the house burning and their children turned to ashes when they got to the house.
The father of the children, Aaron Malapula, 48, reported the matter to Nchelenge police around 22:50 hours.
Police have opened a docket of arson and no arrests have been made.
