By JUDITH NAMUTOWE –
THE Government has released K100, 000 for the construction of Lufubu dam in Luena farm bloc in Kawambwa District of Lupuala Province.
Luapula Province Permanent Secretary Chanda Kasolo confirmed the development in an interview yesterday saying the funds were released towards the end of last week.
Mr Kasolo said the provincial administration was now expected to move quickly towards the mobilisation and selection of tenders.
Lufubu dam is the largest among the five dams that were being constructed in Luena farm bloc.
He said that the Government would include the two companies that constructed the first two dams when selecting the contractors.
Mr Kasolo expressed hope that the dam could be completed within the shortest possible time.
He said once the dam was constructed, it would persuade the investor from Zimbabwe who would set up a sugar plantation to mobilise and move on site as there would be water available for use.
Mr Kasolo said he would engage the investor to ascertain what kind of infrastructure the company would love to put in place.
He said Zesco was ready to move on site to electrify the farm bloc, but that it would only do so once the provincial administration gave the utility company a notice.
