Mazabuka Prison escapee captured

A TWENTY-YEAR-OLD inmate, who escaped from Mazabuka State Prison three-months ago, has been apprehended by alert residents of Chikankanta District.
At the time of the escape, Chrispin Nyeleti, of Nyeleti Village in Mazabuka, was serving a two-year jail term for burglary and theft.
Southern Province deputy Police Chief, Milner Muyambango who confirmed the arrest said yesterday that Nyeleti escaped from custody with three other inmates who are still on the run.
Mr Muyambango said Nyeleti escaped from custody on June 12, this year and was apprehended on Wednesday around 10:00 hours at Maluba Farm in Chikankanta by some alert residents.
“On June 12, 2014, an inmate (Nyeleti) escaped from prison at Munali Hills area with three others where they went to work from Mazabuka State Prison,” he said.
Mr Muyambango said Nyeleti, who was detained at Mazabuka Police Station was also found with suspected stolen property.
He said the suspected stolen goods were found with him in the bush where he used to stay since he escaped from the prison.
