ELEVEN countries have signed up for the prestigious Africa Golf Confederation (AGC) President’s Cup slated for next month in Kitwe.
The continental governing body set a new record in Zambian golf history by unveiling an ambitious budget of $400,000 (about K2.5 million) for the 2014 AGC President’s Cup.
AGC secretary general, Hugh Mortimer said eleven countries had so far entered for the week-long event to be staged at the refurbished Nkana Golf Club.
Mortimer said in an electronic mail from Windhoek, Namibia that each country would enter the best four amateurs for the tournament to be held from September 27 to October 3.
He named the early entries as Namibia, Malawi, Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Tunisia, Mauritius, Mozambique, Botswana, Zimbabwe and hosts, Zambia.
The AGC President’s Cup is also open to nations outside Africa.
AGC president, Joe Malanji also said NFCA Chambishi Mines, Turn Pan, Pex Hydraulics and G&G Bakery had set the ball rolling  by coming on board as part of the sponsors.
NFCA Chambishi Mines were the first to come on board in June with a sponsorship of $20,000 (about K124,000) while more companies are expected to soon join the fray.
Some other business houses have expressed willingness in dangling motor vehicles as prizes for accurate shooters who sink holes-in-one at Nkana.
