Putter golfers shine

TEAM Towera Dodia at the weekend fired a 56 net to win the 2014 Lusaka President’s Putter golf tournament at the Lusaka Golf Club.
Playing against a field of more than 200, Towera Dodia and three of her partners finished more than point ahead of their closest rival to take home the first prize.
Assisted by local professional Kelvin Phiri as well as Richard Phiri and Charles Etemezi, the quartet was unstoppable and went on to win the coveted top honour which included weekend for two to Mfuwe.
Each member of the team will have a weekend for two to Mfuwe, in the South Luangwa National Park and also received maroon jackets.
Taking the prize was a team comprising Alick Mutambo, Chris Mumba, Raphael Phiri and Killian Mwanza, who netted on 57.2 which each member of the team taking home a DStv Explora decoder.
The third position was scooped by the team of Colonel Ndengi, Yakuk Yousuf, Mangani Banda and Walco Wilkens and each team player received a golf bag.
Tournament host and Lusaka Golf Club outgoing President Raj Sharma hailed all for taking part in tournament and called on increased sponsorship from the corporate world.
“I would like to thank you all for being part is this great tournament and all I would say to the next Club president to make the tournament even bigger,” Sharma said.
Africa Golf Confederation (AGC) president Joel Malanji honoured Sachi Mwanza with a K1, 000 for been loyal to the golf club over the years.
Mwanza is one of the longest serving members of the Lusaka Golf Club and has been helpful to the officials every time the club hosted a major tournament.
Malanji said the donation was a way of appreciating dedicated members of the sport and encouraging others to work hard to develop the sport.
In the field of more than 200 golfers, there were prominent members of society like Felix Mutati, the former Commerce Minister, Mark Sichula, one of the most distinguished sports administrators in the country as well as the AGC president Joel Malanji.
