Family loses 3 children in road crash

THREE children from the same family and another have died in separate accidents in Rufunsa in Luangwa District at the weekend.
Ten other people, among them, three children sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at Mphashya Mission Hospital.
The children, aged between two and eight, died after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned after a tyre burst.
Police acting spokesperson Esther Katongo said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that the accident happened on the Great East Road in Lukwipa area around 13:00 hours on Saturday.
Ms Katongo said the accident involved a Toyota Noah registration number ALE 8833, which was being driven by the deceased children’s father Lackson Kabwela, 31, of Material Township.
In another accident, which resulted in the death of another child aged 5, Ms Katongo said incident happened in Chipako in Luangwa.
She said the accident happened after the driver of a motor vehicle, a Mazda registration number ALG 3824, Dominic Sakala, 42, of Kafue, lost control of the car prompting it to overturn.
She said the deceased child died on the spot, while Mr Sakala sustained slight injuries.
Four males and two females who were in the same vehicle also sustained minor injuries.
The child’s body is at Nyimba District Hospital mortuary.
