By CHARITY MOONGA-
THE Private Sector Development Association (PSDA) chairperson, Yusuf Dodia has commended Government for coming up with stringent measures in the 2015 National Budget that will among others stiffen tax evasion.
According to the Medium Term Expenditure Framework for 2015-2017, the 2015 National Budget has proposed stringent measures to boost domestic revenue by among others, stiffening sanctions for tax evasion.
Mr Dodia said in an interview in Lusaka yesterday that it was very important for Government to introduce the sanctions if Zambia was to develop.
He said it was Government’s responsibility to develop the country and the sanctions such as those to be introduced in the budget would go a long way in enhancing the development process for Zambia.
He said all businesses must not evade tax but rather pay their taxes to enable Government carry out developmental projects.
He said the blocking of tax evasion by the Government would greatly benefit the Zambian people.
Mr Dodia, however, called for the proper differentiation between tax evasion and tax avoidance.
According to the ‘Green Paper’, sanctions for tax evasion are meant to enhance the disincentive of the vice.
