THE Boys’ Brigade of Zambia (BBZ) has been challenged to remain steadfast, disciplined and uphold the principles of the movement for it to grow from strength to strength.
Speaking during the closure of the national gala held at Mkushi High School at the weekend, BBZ chaplain Daniel Chisenga implored both the boys and the officers to be focused and uplift the living standards of the citizenry in society.
“Go and preach the word of our Lord Jesus Christ to society and recruit as many people as possible to this movement then the advancement of Christ’s kingdom will be visible,” Reverend Chisenga said.
He said he was grateful with the high number of members in the BBZ.
More than 2,000 members attended the national gala which started its programmes on Friday August 29, and ran through up to Sunday August 31, 2014.
Thirty three battalions participated in this year’s national gala.
National vice-chairperson Yambala Sikazwe urged BBZ members to carry out the principles of the four sided square in the brigade that is, education, physical, social and spiritual principles.
“We need to stand strong and participate fully in celebrating Zambia’s 50th independence looking at what the movement has achieved in the past 45 years it has been in existence. Together we shall unite the nation and enjoy peace and stability in our country,’’ Mr Sikazwe said.
Smith battalion scooped the overall winner in figure marching for junior section and drill competition for company section.
In the band competition advanced category, the first prize went to the 1st Kalulushi BB Coy.
Band competition in intermediate category went to 5th Lusaka BB Coy.
Band competition for beginners’ category was won by the Maurice Nyirongo battalion who garnered 88 per cent.
Individual awards for the best three band/drum majors went to 11th Lusaka, 3rd Mufulira and 7th Lusaka.
