BADMINTON Zambia (BZ) general secretary Kingsley Mulenga has hailed the Under-15 national team for their outstanding performance at the just-ended 2014 Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA) junior championship in Kampala, Uganda.
The tournament saw Kalombo Mulenga crowned Under-15 Africa champion after claiming gold in the boys’ singles and silver in the boys doubles with Andrew Mumba while Annette Njobvu and Laurain Mumba reached the quarterfinals of the girls’ singles and doubles.
Mulenga said in an interview yesterday that despite the team not being physiologically ready, they put up a remarkable performance that put
Zambia in the limelight.
“We are not disappointed at the team’s performance looking at the challenges that surrounded them before they left for Uganda.
They have made us proud because the tournament was their first International outing and their performance is a clear indication that they can do better than this,” Mulenga said.
Mulenga said the under-15 team’s performance was a boost to the association’s efforts of strengthening the sport on the grassroots.
Meanwhile, Mulenga said BZ had started preparations for the forthcoming Zone Six championships that Zambia will host from November 16 to 18.
