CHIEF Ufwenuka of the Tonga people in Monze has asked the Government to send animal vaccines to mitigate livestock diseases in the chiefdom.
The traditional ruler said lots of cattle in his chiefdom were still dying from Corridor disease commonly known as ‘Denkete’.
He was speaking in an interview in Monze at the weekend on the sidelines of this year’s All Tonga Music Festival hosted by Radio Chikuni.
The festival, which attracted about 10, 000 people, was aimed at promoting and preserving the Tonga tradition and culture.
“Denkete is still killing our animals in my chiefdom and we are asking the Government through the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock to send us animal vaccines,” he said.
Chief Ufwenuka also asked for relief maize as most people in the chiefdom did not have a good harvest during the last season.
The traditional leader also called for the upgrading of roads, dams and boreholes in his chiefdom.
He noted that residents and animals in his chiefdom had challenges of accessing clean and safe drinking water.
