Radio Review - jack1IT took one concerned radio fan to call a live phone-in radio programme, just to express his displeasure at the conduct of two presenters while live on air.
His concern was that the presenters wasted a lot of time talking among themselves when they should have allowed listeners to call-in and express their views.
While we agree with the presenters’ defense that every topic floated for live discussion comes with background information which they desire to put across in order to guide the programme, it is prudent to allow listeners air their views.
Nothing wrong, in fact, it is interesting to hear an exhilarating debate on air, and nothing wrong for presenters to share jokes, except some jokes turn out to be embarrassingly offensive, to some listeners.
We had radio presenters who exchanged jokes during some over-to-you progammes back then, the difference is that those were professional and intellectually humorous.

As one listener phoned to remind presenters that they minimise their chatting, another listener phoned, through on a different day on another radio station to educate fellow callers that they should always switch off their radio sets each time they called to avoid
feedback sounds.
With the above statements, it can be said that listeners are more enlightened on what they want hear, therefore, presenters need to be careful the way they conduct themselves on air.
PHOENIX
Lusaka Animal Welfare Society is a programme that highlights the welfare of animals aired on Sundays at 13:30 hours on Radio Phoenix hosted by Lennon Nshinde.
On that Sunday, Caroline and Michelle who are officials from the society presented interesting facts about dogs, that they can be companions to humanity.
The two experts explained how the dog, human attachments in the western world has since compelled medical personnel to allow ailing pet owners be visited by such pets in hospital.
They further explained what type of dogs where good for children and why. The two presenters’ are so knowledgeable about animals that listeners would appreciate tuning in to such presentation.

We are not going to embarrass one radio fan who attempted to answer questions on a 60-second challenge segment on Radio Phoenix; he got all the 10 questions wrong. Zero out of 10!

SUN FM
Has Lucy Flux changed time for her Reggae Night presentation on Sun FM? From the 21:00 hours timing every Tuesdays, the programme was aired at 20:00 hours last week.

We still cannot believe why Amano Nimbuto programme on Sun FM should be introduced in English and be discussed in ci-Bemba. That is unprofessional.
Let English programmes be English and vernacular be such. It is different when the panel mixes languages while presenting, but introducing a programme in one dialect and present it in another, tend to sound amateurish.
RADIO 1
How contradicting was that advertorial aired on Radio 1 with a witchdoctor highlighting his prowess on a Sunday morning when many other radio stations aired religious programmes.
Imagine a religious programme where the clergy encouraged listeners to seek the Lord in prayer for all their problems, and yet on another programme, a witchdoctor promotes his magical powers to heal.
