FIVE people armed with an assortment of weapons yesterday broke into the Kawambwa Post Office around 01:00 hours and got away with K10,000 cash.
The armed robbers were dressed in blue work suits with the word Zambia written on them.?They first attacked the post office watchman, Frederick Musonda, 39, of Chisembe Village in Chief Munkanta’s area in Kawambwa District.
Luapula Province Police chief Malcolm Mulenga said yesterday that Mr Musonda was hit with a pick on the head and on other body parts.
“The watchman sustained a deep cut on the head and general body pains. He is admitted to Kawambwa General Hospital and is currently out of danger,” Mr Mulenga said.
He said when the robbers broke into the post office, they put whitish powder in the key hole of the safe which melted the locks.
The armed robbers got the K10,124.90 which was in the safe.?They also took two mobile phones which were in the post office and whose value was not known.?No arrests have been made yet.
Meanwhile, an elderly woman of Masaiti District was brutally murdered by relatives after they accused her of being a witch.

Copperbelt Police chief Joyce Kasosa said yesterday that Meta Mbambo of Ketule Village in Chief Mushili’s area in Masaiti was allegedly beaten to death on Sunday around 18:30 hours near Lwansobe Market by her relatives who suspected her of being a witch.?Ms Kasosa said the body was in Ndola Central Hospital awaiting postmortem.?She also said a Grade Eight pupil at Nkwazi School in Ndola committed suicide by hanging himself using a neck tie.?Gift Nyakaseya, 17, of House Number 2607, Nkwazi Township, committed suicide around 11:00 hours on Sunday.?“The motive for the suicide is not known,” Ms Kasosa said.
