By ALICK MVULA –
GOVERNMENT has embarked on the construction of the first-ever secondary school in Kansuswa Township in Mufulira at a cost of K9 million.
The secondary school is being built using Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
Local Government and Housing Deputy Minister John Kufuna, who graced the ground breaking ceremony on Thursday, said the contractor for the project Manicks Investment Limited had already been awarded the contract.
Mr Kufuna, who is also Mufulira Central constituency Member of Parliament (MP), said Government attached great importance to education as it was a cornerstone to national development.
He said the construction of the first-ever secondary school in Kansunswa demonstrated Government’s commitment to making education accessible to the majority of Kansuswa residents.
“Kansuswa has, from time inception, never had a secondary school and this was a big challenge to our children who had to walk long distances to access education,” he said.
Mr Kufuna said the construction of the Kansuswa Secondary School would help children in the area access education without much difficult.
He said the previous governments failed to build a secondary school in Kansunswa but with the PF in power, the story had changed.
Mufulira District Commissioner Chanda Kabwe appealed to the contractor to speed up the process of constructing the school so that children could be saved from the trouble of walking long distance to get to school.
