THE Jesuit Centre for Theological Reflection (JCTR) has disclosed that Zambia is recording huge investments through the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) which is resulting in job creation and economic growth.
JCTR Programmes Officer Bwalya Mutumba said at the Basic Need Basket (BNB) stakeholders meeting held in Chipata on Thursday that because of the increase in the FDI, the country was recording more job opportunities for Zambians.
“Zambia is recording huge investments opportunities through Foreign Direct Investment and most of the Zambians are finding jobs through investments which the country is recording,” she said.
Ms Mutumba, however, said the majority of the Zambian people were still in informal employment including running their own business despite the Government announcing that 92,000  people were now in formal employment.
She explained that the people who were in formal employment and were taxed were only 11.3 per cent of the 13 million estimated Zambian population.
Ms Mutumba said according to the 2010 Living Condition Monitoring Survey (LCMS), about60.5 per cent were still living in abject poverty.
She explained 77.9 per cent rural in areas and 27.5 per cent in urban area were poor.
She explained that according to 2014 Human Development report about income, 42.6 percent were still living in poverty.
