Muf man (65) axed to death

A SIXTY-FIVE-YEAR-OLD man of Mufulira has been axed to death by a suspected mentally ill man.
Copperbelt Deputy Police chief Mukuka Chewe said Erico Mpenge, of Chiwele farming area in Mufulira died on Friday last week from head injuries he sustained after he was allegedly axed by John Chinyama of Mufulira, a suspected mentally ill man almost two weeks ago.
Chinyama allegedly axed Mr Mpenge on September 24, this year around 08:00 hours.
Mr Mpenge sustained a deep cut on his head and was taken to Ronald Ross Hospital.
Mr Chewe said, however, Mr Mpenge died on Friday at 07:40 hours.
“Unfortunately Mr Mpenge passed on October 3 and Chinyama is been held for murder,” he said.
In a related development, a 35-year-old man of Nsonka Village in Chief Kambwali’s area in Nchelenge has died after he was allegedly assaulted by two people of the same village.
Luapula Province Police Commissioner Malcolm Mulenga said on Wednesday last week around 14:30 hours, Lameck Musonda was allegedly assaulted by two men only known as Mushitu and Kabele for unknown reasons.
Mr Mulenga said Mr Musonda was rushed to St Paul’s Hospital and around 15:00 hours, he died.
He sustained a cut on the head and bruises on his ribs.
A postmortem would be conducted and police were on a manhunt for the two suspects.
Meanwhile, three people died when the vehicle they were travelling in plunged in Kafubu River in Ndola in the early hours of yesterday.
The three are said to have been travelling from the town centre towards Itawa residential area when the accident happened.
Mr Chewe said he did not have the details of the accident but he had been informed about the death of three people.
