By SANDRA MWILA –
SOUTH African bantamweight champion, Bukiwe Nonina has warned Catherine Phiri to expect a good beating when they two square it out for the World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver title.
Nonina said in an interview from South Africa yesterday that she was coming to Zambia to teach Catherine a lesson and grab the WBC bantamweight title at the Government Complex in Lusaka on November 22.
“I will be coming to Zambia not only to fight Catherine but to also teach her a lesson to remember. Beating Catherine and winning the WBC title will be a stepping stone in my career. The fight will be on my birthday and winning the title will be a good present,” she said.
Nonina, however, admitted that fighting Catherine will not be easy but was ready to
challenge her and win the title adding that her aims is to become the World champion
at the age of 28.
Meanwhile, Superior Milling Company yesterday gave Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions (OQBP) K50, 000 for the fights that will also see Zimbabwean Charles Manyuchi defend his WBC welterweight title against Colombian David Carcese.
Managing director Peter Cotton said that his company will continue with its vision of supporting boxing and that K40, 000 will be in cash while the remaining K10,000 will be in form of assorted food products for the boxers.
