SIX Zambian pool players are in Tanzania to defend the African Championship title at the tournament that starts today.
Zambia Pool Union (ZPU) general secretary Ken Mwape said in an interview from Tanzania yesterday that the union was confident the team picked would defend the Africa Championship.
Zambia won the African Championship last year in Malawi.
“We have selected six of our best pool players and we are confident that we will defend the title for mother Zambia,” he said.
Mwape said despite the delays in travel arrangements by ZPU, Zambia sent experienced players capable of retaining the title.
The ZPU general secretary said only a few changes had been made to the team that competed and won last year’s championship.
“We have experienced pool players competing for the title especially that most of them were part of the team last year,” he said.
He named the players as Moses Mofya, who was the third best in the individual category at the Africa Championship last year and Nkole Muntanga, the Memorial Pool champion.
Others are Victor Sinyiza, Remmy Musonda, Juma Chilongo and Kelvin Phiri.
Countries participating in the African championship include hosts Tanzania, Malawi, Lesotho, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda and holders Zambia.
