ZESCO Limited has spent more than K244, 000 on buying  assorted sports attire to enable the workers participate in the electricity generating firm’s national Golden Jubilee sports festival.
Speaking when he launched the jubilee sports festival at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola yesterday, Zesco managing director, Cyprian Chitundu said the firm’s corporate social responsibility was not only
limited to external clients but its workforce also.
Chitundu said Zesco realised that factors outside the work environment had an effect on the motivation to work and produce results as planned in offices.
He said the power company found it essential to promote the work-life balance factor through various sporting disciplines.
Chitundu said Zesco would endeavour to support and make financial and material requirements available for sporting activities.
“We pledge that we shall endeavor to support and make financial and material requirements available, all things are equal,” he said.
Chitundu said this year, the firm had spent K244,531 to buy 36 sets of assorted sports kit for men and women and that this was testimony of the corporate management’s commitment to employees’ well-being.
The three-day Zesco independence sports festival has attracted 645 participants’ men and women from all its regional offices across Zambia and they will compete in football, netball and basketball.
Chitundu also said it was the duty of all employees to deliver and surpass the expectations of their stakeholders.
