By SHAMAOMA MUSONDA –
PACESETTER George Chuulu will this weekend have to prove his worth when he goes on the rough terrain in the Monze Rally that’s revs off today in Southern Province.
Up against 24 drivers who want to win this one, Chuulu said he would not let anyone stop his surge for the first national rally title.
Chuulu vowed to stop at nothing to get the national title and has no plans of surrendering the leadership, now or ever this year.
“Until I am crowned Zambian champion, I’ll not rest. I have been preparing hard for this one and the car is in good condition. I am quite confident of collecting maximum points during the Monze Rally and eventually win the title,” a determined Chuulu said.
He said during the Monze Rally, he would go flat out to collect maximum points because the competition was stiff.
Some of Chuulu’s competitors would  be reigning African rally Champion Jassy Singh who is intent on bagging the Zambian title and keep his trophy cabinet shining with top awards.
However, former African champion, Mohamed Essa pulled out of the race to concentrate on preparations for the continental title.
Chuulu is currently topping the chart on 111 points while Singh lies second, five points adrift on 106 points.
At least 25 local drivers have confirmed participation in the Monze Rally, which two days ago got a K20,000 boost from Meanwood General Insurance .
The Meanwood General insurance sponsorship meant the Zambia Motor Sports Association (ZMSA) had met its K43,000 budget to stage the seventh round of the national rally.
Organising committee chairperson, Juma Banda said Meanwood General Insurance and Mwalini investment chipped in to complete the budgetary needs.
The eighth round will be held on November 22-23 at Dave Gordon’s Sable Farm in Chisamba.
