TEN men have been arrested over theft of 1, 500 bags of maize from a Food Reserve Agency (FRA) depot in Mkushi.
Three trucks laden with the contraband were intercepted in Kapiri Mposhi yesterday as they made their way to Lusaka using some back roads.
Among the 10 are drivers of the three trucks. The 10 had stolen the maize from Masansa depot in Mkushi and police are searching for the depot manager and a guard who are on the run.
The duo may have connived with the suspects to steal the maize from the depot. Central Province deputy Police chief Edwin Bwanga said 1,500 bags of maize were stolen from the depot and transported through Masansa Road en route to Lusaka.
The trucks were only intercepted by alert police officers in Kapiri Mposhi.
The 10 suspects are still in custody and are helping police with investigations.
