COACH Elias Kataya has picked two female boxers to participate at the International Boxing Federation (AIBA) 2014 Women’s World Boxing Championship slated for November 15 to 18 in Jeju, South Korea.
Zambia Boxing Federation (ZBF) president Thomas Chileshe said in an interview yesterday that Kataya had given the nod to Nakambala boxer Jane Mulenga and Sally Mumba respectively.
The two were picked after impressing during the selection camp held at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) that saw Sara Mbawa of Chililabombwe and Miriam Daka of Red Arrows fall out.
The pair is expected to leave for South Korea on Sunday for a two-week pre-tournament camping in readiness for the championship.
“The two boxers have been training at their respective clubs, so they are in good shape and are ready to produce fruitful results. They will be leaving on Sunday to attend the AIBA training camp before the start of the competition which will be a great opportunity for them to interact with officials from across the world,” Chileshe said.
He hailed the National Olympic Committee (NOC) for providing two tickets for the boxers to travel to South Korea.
“We are happy that we are sending the two boxers for the championship and we are expecting them to produce good results for our country,” he said.
