ZAMBIA’S female top seed, Ogar Siamupangila has set her sights on striking gold at the forthcoming Zone Six Championship next month after winning the 2014 Copperbelt Open Badminton title last weekend.
Siamupangila said winning the Copperbelt Open championship was a good dress rehearsal for her ahead of the Zone Six tournament slated for November 16-18.
She said in an interview yesterday that winning the Copperbelt Open had also helped her shape up well for the Zambia international tournament to be held later this year.
The Nkwazi player said her eyes were now set at putting up a medal winning display at the forthcoming two tournaments.
Siamupangila also showered praise on her team-mates for putting up a good performance during the tournament that saw Mark Banda winning the men’s title.
“I am very happy to see the team perform well at the tournament and would urge them to train even harder as we prepare for the forthcoming tournaments.
“The team showed discipline and as a new club, I am impressed with the players’ display and I wish to thank the Zambia Police command for their support to the club, leading to our victory at this tournament,” he said.
Siamupangila, who is also Nkwazi badminton national coordinator, said the club would soon commence preparations for the two upcoming international events which she predicted would be tough.
“The upcoming tournaments will be tough but all we need is to work hard to get better results, otherwise we have capable players that can deliver” she said.
Siamupangila with her younger sister Evelyn, were recently crowned doubles champions of the Ethiopia international championship.
