Supreme courtBy SYLVIA MWEETWA –

THE Supreme Court sitting in Kabwe has upheld the death sentence of a 33-year-old Kalabo man who shot dead another man in unexplained circumstances.
Supreme Court Judge Evans Hamaundu threw out the appeal and upheld the death sentence because evidence before the lower court was clear that he aimed at killing his victim.
Chipopa Chibambo shot and killed Chrispin Mushota near his home and that police later recovered the firearm he had used, with 22 rounds of ammunition.
Witnesses during the trial said cartridges found at the scene matched the gun which was used in the crime.
Chibambo maintained his innocence from the time he was arrested until conclusion of the trial.
During appeal hearing in Kabwe, Justice Hamaundu upheld the sentence, describing the grounds of appeal as baseless.
Chibambo had filed three grounds of appeal challenging the both conviction and sentence, saying the court misdirected itself when it convicted him.
