Lusaka man denies beating ‘randy’ cop

A BUSINESS executive has denied beating a police officer he allegedly found having sex with his wife.
James Kabanda, 38, of Chazanga Township is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.
It is alleged that Kabanda on October 30, 2014 at Lusaka assaulted Iveen Kapenda an anti robbery police officer of Emmasdale Township, thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.
But Kabanda told Lusaka magistrate Jane Bwalya that he is not guilty of the offence.
Ms Bwalya has since adjourned the matter to next week Wednesday as a date for commencement of trial.
Meanwhile, a secretary and a taxi driver have pleaded not guilty to purchasing fake money amounting to more that K89,000.
Esther Mundebele and William Mwambazi have also denied before Lusaka magistrate Sheila Mweene, stealing K89,400 each from M.M.I Steel Zambia Limited.
They are charged with three counts of purchasing fake currency and theft.
It is alleged that Mundebele and Mwambazi on August 15, 2014 were found in possession of K89,400 of forged bank notes on August 15, 2014 in Lusaka.
Mundebele being an employee by M.M.I Steel Zambia Limited as secretary on August 15, 2014 stole K89,400 cash from her employer while Mwambazi is in the third count alleged to have on the same date stolen K89,400 from M.M.I Steel Zambia.
After the offences were read out to them by Ms Mweene yesterday, they both told the court that they understood the charges but they are not guilty.
Ms Mweene entered pleas of not guilty and adjourned the matter to November 19, 2014 for commencement of trial.
