POLICE in Lusaka have detained six people in connection with the brutal murder of a soldier.
The Ndola-based soldier was found dead with a broken arm and multiple deep cuts on his face.
Sergeant Likando Likando, 40, was murdered in Mikango barracks area in Lusaka on October 24, this year, and was found with multiple deep cuts on his face and two of his fingers partly chopped.
Sources alleged that Mr Likando was murdered by his lover’s boyfriend but Police said they were still investigating to establish the motive behind the murder.
They said his body was later put on the tarmac and it is believed that his killers wanted to make it look as if he had been hit by a motor vehicle.
Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga confirmed in an interview that Mr Likando was murdered on Independence Day around 22:00 hours.
Mr Hamoonga said the deceased, who was undergoing an in-service training programme at Mikango Barracks, was found with multiple deep cuts on his face.
He said he was also found with a cut on his right shoulder and had two of his two fingers partly cut.
Mr Hamoonga said six people had since been detained at Woodlands Police station to help with investigations.
He, however, said the suspects were still undergoing screening before they could be formally arrested and charged.
