KELVIN ‘Kelvinator’ Ndhlovu won the 2014 TNM Malawi Open Squash tournament held in Lilongwe at the weekend after beating Emmanuel Musefwa 3-0 in an all-Zambian final.
On his way to the final, Musefwa beat compatriot Frank Webo 3-1 in the quarter-finals before defeating another Zambian Manda Chilambwe 3-2 in the semi-finals.
There was also an all-Zambia affair in the third and fourth playoff match where Chilambwe beat Kundanji Kalengo 3-1.
Meanwhile, Zesco Limited has pumped K50,000 into the Ndola Open Squash championship slated for December 5 to 7.
The power utility company will also give a facelift of the entire squash club ahead of the tournament.
Club project manager Chunga Kapema said in an interview that the Zesco’s donation will cater for the prizes and logistics.
“We are happy that the company has been kind enough to extend its help in carrying out the refurbishment of the club that will see the lighting system inside and outside the club improved, the ablution blocks, and courts among others,” Kapema said.
Kapema said the players will square up in the men’s, women’s veterans and juniors categories
“What makes this tournament is the inclusion of the junior’s category, and the winners will walk away with cash prizes except for the juniors who will carry home appliances such as pressing irons and microwaves,” he said.
