Loose cable electrocutes Mwense man

A MWENSE man has died after he was electrocuted by a cut Zesco cable that he came in contact with following a heavy down pour.
Albert Mukobe, 30, of Mwense in Kasonge Village area got electrocuted by a 33 kv Zesco line that got cut on Monday around 20:30 hours.
Luapula Province Police Chief Malcolm Mulenga said yesterday that a Zesco cable got cut and dropped after a heavy down pour.
When Mr Mukobe came in contact with the live Zesco line, Mr Mulenga said, he suffered severe burns on his face and both legs.
Mr Mukobe’s house is just 100 metres away from the accident scene.
Mr Mulenga said Mr Mukobe was rushed to Mansa General Hospital.
“He died in hospital on Tuesday at 15:00 hours where he had been admitted,” he said.
Meanwhile, a 91 year-old woman of Zimba in Southern Province has been stabbed with a knife by unknown people leaving her with serious wounds for allegedly practicing witchcraft.
Tedela Munkombwe, of Chief Simwatachela, was stabbed by unknown people who forcibly entered her grass-thatched hut on grounds that she was practicing witchcraft.
Southern Province Deputy Police Chief, Milner Muyambango said Ms Munkombwe was stabbed on Saturday around 21:00 hours.
Ms Munkombwe was stabbed with a knife several times and that in the process she sustained serious wounds on the body.
“Unknown people entered the old woman’s grass thatched hut around 21:00hours on Saturday and stabbed her several times with a knife, she is admitted at Zimba Mission Hospital and her condition is bad,” he said.
In another development, a woman of Kasensa Village in Gwembe District identified as Rhoda Syambole was on Monday killed by a crocodile in Lake Kariba as she was trying to take a bath.
District Commissioner Alice Mwiinga said Ms Syambole, 52, had gone to check on her garden which was along the lake and later decided to take a bath.
“Unfortunately there were only children around who were looking after cattle and could not manage to rescue her but just rushed to inform elders who also rushed and started throwing stones in the water forcing the crocodile to abandon the body a few minutes later,” she said.
