THE motor racing legacy of the Singh family this weekend comes to spotlight at the season closing Barn Rally in Chongwe as brothers, Jassy and Muna Junior aim for a one and two finish in the National Rally Championship.

Former African champion, Jassy leads the championship race on 131 points, 13 points clear of his younger brother Muna, who is second, with their main rival, Geoffrey Chulu a further three points off.

The two Singh siblings are offsprings of former Zambian and Africa rally champion, Muna Singh as well as nephews to the legend himself, Satwant.

So a first and second finish in this Barn Rally will be an honour and seal a memorable racing year for the family.

Muna remains determined to get a podium finish but is growing cold feet when it comes to finishing first ahead of his older brother, Jassy.

He said what was realistic now was a second place finish and not top slot occupied by Jassy.

Realistically though, he has just as good a chance to win the national title as his older brother but seems content to finish in second place behind his brother, Jassy.

“It will be difficult to finish in first place because Jassy has 13 points lead. So even if I finish first (25 points) it will be difficult to overhaul Jassy if he finishes second (18 points). Second place will be an achievement for me because the closest I have got in the rally is sixth position,” Muna said.

While Muna will be a friendly force for Jassy at the Barn Rally, he is fully aware of the real danger that is lurking just behind in the form of Chulu.

Chulu is 16 points off the top but knows too well that anything can happen to the leading pair as it occured to him in the previous race where he finished eighth after a mechanical fault, dropping from top to third on the overall standings.

Chulu is a formidable competitor, who has never come this close to winning the rally and with that glowing lingering makes him a dangerous opponent for the Singh family this afternoon.

He is a stronger driver than Muna and all things being equal should finish ahead of the younger Singh and how well he deals with the robust Jassy is what will determine his title ambitions.

For Chulu to win, he has to win the Barn Rally, which will automatically overhaul Muna’s points but hope that Jassy finishes outside the top five.

How they stand:

Name Pts

Jassy 131

Muna Jr 118

Chulu 115
