MORE than 70 top table tennis players will today compete in the national junior table tennis tournament at the Olympic Youth Development Centre (OYDC) in Lusaka.
Zambia Table Tennis Association (ZTTA) patron Haroon Ghumra said the tournament had been jointly sponsored by Agogo’s Bakery and Bookworld.
Ghumra said Agogo had provided trophies for the winners as well as K1, 500 to go towards organisational expenses.
He said Bookworld had donated 13 gift vouchers to be given to winners and runners-up in each of the six categories of the tournament with the other one award going to the most promising player of the tournament.
The categories up for grabs in the boys section are under-18, 14, 12 and eight while the girls will only have under-18 and 12.
Ghumra said going by the levels of commitment from the players, the tournament will have some closely contested encounters.
Some of the players expected to take part are Choolwe Hamalambo, Jeconial Lambe, Zaninge Kaira, Mwiza Siame, Stephen Sululu, Aaron Phiri, Chanda Muma and Sydney Sakala.
The girls are Latiffah Nalavwe, Mubanga Kunda, Harriet Tembo and Martha Banda.
