FEMALE top seed Ogar Siamupangila was among the three Zambians that stormed the semi finals of the Zambia International Badminton Championship which ends today at National Sports Development Centre (NASDEC) in Lusaka.
Siamupangila teamed up with Uganda’s Bridget Shamuin in the women’s doubles to beat the pair of Egypt’s Doha Hang and Hadia Hosni 3-0 with set scores of 21-13, 21-17, 21-7 in the quarterfinals.
This was a big result for Siamupangila, who had earlier tumbled in the women singles after losing her quarterfinal match to Grace Gabriel of Nigeria losing 3-0 (16-21, 12-21, 7-21).
In the men’s events, Chongo Ngosa and Chongo Mulenga beat the pair of Rudolf Dellenbach of Hungry and Bruno Stegani of Italy 2-1 with set scores of 19-21, 21-15 and 21-12 to reach the semi-finals.
Ngosa later teamed up with Siamupangile in the mixed doubled to eliminated the Egyptian paired of Ahmed Salah and Menna Eltanany winning 22-20, 21-11 to book a place in the semi finals.
Siamupangila and Ngosa were scheduled to face Julien Georges and Kate Foo Kune of Mauritius in the semi-finals.
Zambia’s Steve Kamanga suffered a 2-0 (21-3, 21-3) defeat at the hands of tournament top seed Rosario Maddaloniof Italy to exit the men’s singles at quarter final stage.
