Ndola squash tourney in prize galore

THE Ndola Squash Club has unveiled prizes for this weekend’s 2014 Zesco-Ndola Open Squash Championship that will see the winner in the men category walk away with K5,500.
With Zesco Limited, the sole sponsors of the tournament pumping in K50,000 in the competition, the tournament will see finalists, semi and quarter finalists in the men’s and ladies’ categories including the top four veterans guaranteed of pocketing some cash prizes.
According to a statement released yesterday by Ndola Squash club chairperson Model Kanyimbo, the winner in the men’s category will pocket K5,500 with the top prizes in the ladies’ and veterans’ categories pegged at K3,200 and K1, 100 respectively.
The runners up prizes have been pegged at K3, 500 for men class while that of the ladies is K1, 700 with K750 for the veterans.
Semi-finalists in the men’s category will pocket K1,800 with their female counterparts bagging K900 while K500 will go to the veterans. The quarter-finalists will take home K1000 and K650 in the men and ladies’ categories respectively.
The club set K700 for the plate final in the men’s class with the runner up pocketing K500.
Kanyimbo said the structure of the prizes at the tournament was to promote competition among the players.
“As usual, we want to make this tournament a special and exciting experience for all who will attend. The prizes have been structured in such a way that they reflect the competitiveness of the various categories and that winners be rewarded accordingly, after all that is the essence of competition,” Kanyimbo said.
