FORUM for Democratic Alternatives (FDA) president Dr Ludwig Sondashi, will give more powers to Parliament to allow the institution make the government accountable and Dr Sondashi described Parliament in its current state as a rubber stamp.
He said it was wishful thinking to stop elderly people from participating in politics arguing that elderly persons were more responsible and had wisdom to provide proper guidance, especially over the affairs of the nation.
His government would ensure that Parliament had powers to make decisions and not to be used as a rubber stamp like the case, saying currently, it was unable to order government to take actions on certain matters affecting governance system.
“When we are elected into office, we will see to it that we give powers to the most important institution of the country-Parliament unlike the current scenario where it is used like a rubber stamp because it has teeth but cannot bite,” he said.
On the involvement of elderly people in politics, Dr Sondashi said vying for presidential office should not be restricted to younger people alone because elderly politicians were better placed because they understood issues better.
He said in villages the positions of headman were given to elderly men because they are considered to be wise and wondered why it should not apply in politics and maintained that he was a right candidate for the job because he understands issues well.
He urged Zambians to vote for him and that he would use his 35 years experience to develop the country and that his party would also supply free Sondashi Formula to persons living with HIV/AIDS once voted into power.
Dr Sondashi, speaking during rally at Comet Ground where he asked the people of Kabwe to vote for him because he knows where he wants to take the town which was once a shining example.
He also promised to introduce a federal system that would allow provinces to operate independently and freely without seeking for permissions from Lusaka, adding that the current decentralised system had failed the Zambian people.
His government would also restore peace and unity which most people had lost due to misunderstandings surrounding Chief Chitumukulu, Western Province and that lack of employment and money in people’s pockets has brought about people losing the peace of mind.
Earlier, FDA secretary general Wesley Miyanda said the people of Zambia should vote for his party which was headed by a sober and selfless leader who was not corrupt.
Mr Miyanda said his party was built on confidence and trust and cautioned Zambians against experimenting on leadership at the expense of a sober minded leader.
It was only his party who hasd interest for the nation at heart and urged them to turn up and vote wisely during the 2015 elections.
