THE Zambia Amateur Swimming Union (ZASU) is targeting winning medals at the 2015 All Africa Games to be staged in Congo Brazzaville following a successful 2014 season.
ZASU president David Thompson said the swimmers have continued looking sharp in training and most of them are excited with the prospect of competing at the All Africa Games.
Thompson said swimming recorded some unique achievements among them the qualification of Ralph Goveia to the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games.
“The 2014 swimming season was very fantastic in that we had some unique achievements. For the first time we had a Zambian swimmer Ralph Goveia qualifying for the junior youth Olympics in China, and for us as a nation that was a milestone”, he said.
Thompson said the work ethics and hard work exhibited by the staff and trainers had a strong effect on the athletes which inspired them to perform at their best.
“I think it’s not easy for any team to succeed without the support of key elements such as staff and trainers, without them we wouldn’t have achieved the positive outcome of this year.
This also was a key factor because most of the swimmers in our team were able to give their best for every tournament we had, not only within the country but out of the country as well,” he said.
He said the swimmers were striving to reach greater heights by adapting to various swimming pools outside the country where competitions have been held.
